<description>Snoring is a problem that affects not only you but also those sleeping with or around you. Why not get rid of it through a simple yoga asana?

All of us love to hit the sack after a hard day’s work But there are some who have to merely mention sleep to make others sleepless! Yes, we are talking about you, you snorer! As you snore your way to sound sleep, others around you spend sleepless nights. If you’re a snorer, then this bit is just for you. Actually, all of us snore at some point of time or another. A major cause of snoring is weakness of the throat tissues. A weak throat closes at times as you sleep, thus affecting your breathing and making you snore. Here’s just one simple asana that can help you get over snoring...

TONGUE TWISTER
Another major cause of snoring is weak tongue tissues. At times, even as you sleep, your tongue turns and twists inside your mouth, preventing you from inhaling properly and thus snoring. This further deprives you of your usual oxygen intake at night, which in turn affects your overall well-being.

SOUND CONTROL
Quick tips to snooze that snore
Lose weight! Fatty tissues in and around the throat may block the air passage. Always sleep with a pillow (but not thicker than 6”), as it makes breathing easier. Avoid smoking or drinking just before going to bed, as these can congest the nasal passages.
If you have a cough/cold, clear your throat and nasal passage before you sleep.

DID YOU KNOW?
Ashtanga yoga is one of the six schools of Hindu philosophy focusing on meditation. It is defined in the sutrasas having eight branches and as being the means to physiological and spiritual mastery. Many think yoga is only about asanas. Those, in fact, make up only one branch of Ashtanga yoga. The others are yama, niyama, pranayama, pratyahar, dharna, dhyanand samadhi.

UJJAYEE PRANAYAM
Close your eyes and sit in sukhasana, breathing normally. Exhale fully. Now inhale with both nostrils and contract your neck muscles so as to produce a continuous sobbing sound—low but uniformly pitched and without any breaks. Inhale to your lungs’ maximum capacity. You should feel a slight vibration in your chest and head areas. Try to hold your breath for as long as possible. Now form the pranayam mudra with your right hand, close the right nostril with your right thumb and then exhale very, very slowly through the left nostril. This completes one round. Repeat this 8–10 times. Benefits: Strengthens throat tissues to curb snoring; boosts lung and thyroid functions; counters heart and brain problems; removes any blockages of the air passages
